Only use a company that is prepared to fully guarantee their workmanship. 3. Always make sure that you are going to have fully qualified and experienced tradesmen working on your job. 4. Only ever employ tradesmen who are members of the appropriate trade association, i.e. RGI, RECI/ESSA. 5. Do not employ scruffy tradesmen with no company uniforms who drive rusty old vans – their work will probably be of a similar standard as their appearance. 6. Make sure you use a company that will not charge you for hidden extras such as call outs, travelling time, excessive mark up on materials or parking. 7. Only used a company that has a verifiable address and operates from a landline. 8. Make sure there is agreed level of understanding between you and your tradesman and that he is clear about exactly what you want done. 9. Always get an estimate of how much a job will cost before giving the go-ahead for work to start. 10. Make sure payment is not required until the job has been completed and you are satisfied with the work and an invoice has been presented. 11. Make sure that on completion of your job you are presented with an invoice showing full details of the work and a breakdown of the labour charged and the materials used.
